With the election of the new coalition government, a programme of reducing the massive national debt through cuts has been announced; cuts to public spending being suggested for the next few years may total over £100 billion. Hackney Solidarity Network is hosting a General Meeting tomorrow at the Moth Club to discuss a programme of action on the effects these cuts will have on public services and jobs. Next Sunday, Friends of Hackney Nurseries are hosting a planning afternoon to discuss how to safeguard affordable childcare in Hackney. Also, Hackney Trade Union Council is calling a meeting on 30 June at The Trinity Centre, Beechwood Road, to come together in the fight against cuts.
On July7, Hackney LINk is hosting a public event to discuss the future of Hackney’s services in light of the policy agenda of the new coalition government. The events includes a question and answers session discussing the challenges for Hackney’s health and social care services in light of the new government’s policies, come along and pose your questions to the panel. Also on 14 July, Hackney’s Black & Ethnic Minority Working Group is hosting an event on Diabetes at the Hackney Carers Centre.
Finally, this Saturday the V22 Gallery is hosting a children’s party on Ashwin Street, they’ve been working with local children to create a sports mural, bring friends and family for a day of painting, cake and fun!
