HSN May update 1; 5th UC College strike, 5th SP meet on cuts, 6th some election, 9th HSN/Reel news

Staff will be joined by students dressed as plumbers on picket lines outside Hackney Community College on 5 May in protest at the college's decision to close over two-thirds of its oversubscribed plumbing department. The day's strike action, organised by UCU, will see staff walk out at 11 further education colleges and three universities across the capital. The plumbing tutors and their students will be on the picket line at Falkirk Street from 11.30am to 1.00pm. This Wednesday, Hackney Socialist Party will be holding a pre-election public meeting titled; "Defend Public Services - No Cuts".
No matter the result of the general election all three capitalist parties have made it clear there will be huge attacks on the jobs and services of the working class. Come to the meeting to discuss how we can fight back. Glenn Kelly (witchunted Unison NEC member - personal capacity) will introduce the discussion. Everybody who lives in, works in or enjoys Stoke Newington is welcome toattend this event which will use an ‘open space’ format to help us workout what we want to do and how to do it. This is not a day full of the usual expert speakers or presentations: the people who attend will set the agenda on the day, in response to the question ‘how can we build a positive future for Stoke Newington?’
