This Thursday, Hackney TUC are hosting a public meeting open to all who are interested in challenging racism and building a strong community network here in Hackney.

Public meeting hosted by
Hackney TUC
Thursday 12 February 7pm
Room 102 Hackney Town Hall, Mare Street, London E8 1EA
Speakers:Liz Mcelroy AFL-CIO election co-ordinator Philadelphia, Lindsay Patterson United Steel Workers of America

Please note the meeting will start at 7pm prompt.

We are incredibly fortunate to have two guest speakers from the US trade union movement who were directly involved in challenging racism and mobilisation a labour movement pro-Obama vote in the US presidential elections.

They will be sharing their experience and discussing the organising strategies they deployed to deliver 'regime change' in the USA.

The meeting will also be an opportunity to reflect on how these organising strategies can boost our local campaign to mobilise an anti-BNP vote in the June elections. It will also be an opportunity to discuss how we bring communities together and build consensus.

The meeting will also be a planning meeting. We are looking for coordinators to deliver approximately 2,000 leaflets in each of Hackney's 17 wards.

You can help make this meeting a success by:
… Attending the meeting yourself, and brining some friends, neighbours or work colleagues with you.
… Notifying us in advance if you will be prepared to help with leafleting one or two streets where you live (and roping in a couple of other people to help)
… Cascading this email on and telling friends, neighbours and work colleagues to come to the meeting, or to sign up for the campaign

AGM
The main business of the meeting will conclude by 8.30pm, after which there will be a short formal Hackney TUC AGM. For constitutional reasons, only delegates will be able to speak or vote at the AGM.
