SPIRIT finally gets his Day(s) in Court

Lowell 'Spirit' Grant leased a completely derelict shop premises from Hackney Council in 1993 and spent more than 6 years and all of his life savings turning it into the Nutritious Food Galley at 71 Broadway Market, E8, with a small flat above which he called home. He began trading in January 2000. Just 23 months later he paid a deposit cheque to Nelson Bakewell (agents for Hackney Council) to buy the property as part of a massive asset stripping exercise aimed at clearing a £72 million local budget defecit. Later that day, Nelson Bakewell sold the property to a Dubai based property developer for £15k less than Spirit had already offered.

After Spirit was evicted, the search for the truth went on and a Court granted him permission to sue Hackney Council out of time.

Spirit is now to have his day in Court. The case is listed for Monday 28th September at the Central London County Court in Park Crescent, NW1 and is due to last 3 days. This will be a claim against Hackney for breach of contract. Legal advisers are quietly confident. This will be the first stages of achieving justice for Spirit (and also hopefully for Tony Platia and the Dalston Lane leaseholders).

Those interested in showing Spirited but orderly support for Spirit in the next stage of his battle for justice are invited to attend at the Court on the morning of 28th September 2009 from 9.15am onwards. For those who are able to endure listening to many hours of legal arguments, a limited show of support within the Court is also invited.
