Hackney Solidarity Network/Reel News Documentary Film Shows; January to August 2010

The second Sunday of every month at the MOTH Club, Valette Street , Hackney, 7pm till 10pm

HSN combined with Reel News in mid-2009 to do a monthly film night in Hackney, and since then we have had films on the Vestas occupation, Camp for Climate Action, the Visteon occupation, Argentinian factory occupations, Janine Booth launching her book on the Poplar Cllrs in 1921, The Miners Strike; 25 years on, recent RMT disputes, the SOAS occupation against arrest and deportation of cleaners, the postal workers dispute and much more.

The format of the evenings is that short films are shown, then between each, those present have an opportunity to ask questions, often of people directly involved in all these disputes/campaigns, and debate the issues raised.

For 2010, every other month there will be a specific theme with invited speakers and then every other month will be updates nights. Reel News are producing hours of video, on struggles from labour movement to environmentalism, every month, so there will always be something of interest. Check their website to see what they regularly produce. And check the HSN website for updates for the content of these shows, which will appear at least a week or so before the show.
