We've launched a new, free newsletter called the Hackney Heckler. The first issue has been enthusiastically received by the good people of the borough - so enthusiastically that we hardly have any copies left. We had 3000 printed and they will be gone by Saturday! But please read on for a link to download as a PDF!

The Heckler aims to be a focal point for resistance in Hackney and work has already started on the second issue. If you would like to to contribute or can help with distribution, then please get in touch!

NO HACKNEY HIGH-RISE
is opposed to Southern Housing’s 19 FLOOR TOWER proposed at 22-44 LONDON LANE E8 3PR and all other proposed inappropriate towers.
• Tower blocks do not preserve or enhance character or appearance where it is proposed - in a conservation area.
• Proposed development is out of scale with the terraced streets that surround the proposed development.
• Proposed development is too dense, adversely affecting the quality of life for those who live within and surrounding the development.

Olympic Dream or Workers' Nightmare? - IWW report on working conditions at the 2012 Olympic Site

This report documents and critically analyses the working conditions of construction workers on the Stratford City development site of the 2012 Olympic Games. We base our findings entirely on the accounts of anonymous IWW and non-IWW construction workers employed there.

The report documents widespread mismanagement and a lack of resources devoted to ensuring that health and safety standards are maintained. Police intimidation of workers and harassment union activists is also documented.
